Royal Arch Golf Day - 2008

The second annual golf day sponsored by the Royal Arch was held on Monday 30th June 2008 at the Hatfield London Golf Club, Essendon, Herts., commencing with Coffee and Bacon Baguette, followed by a 18 hole Stableford Competition with a Presentation Dinner to complete.

In spite of five late withdrawals, 59 golfers took part in an exciting round of golf on a challenging course with two players managing to break par.

The winner of the Alec Fuller Singles Trophy was John Campbell (H/c 20) of Elstree Chapter. The second, third and fourth places were divided by handicap with John Lawlor (Queens Oak), Bruce Buchan and Les Rockley (both Caishowe Boundary) filling these positions in the 1 -18 handicap range and Graham West (Caishowe Boundary), Ted Long (Royston) and B. Platten (Letchworth Garden City) being successful in the 19 – 28 handicap range.

The pairs competition for the Sidney E.E. Tuck Trophy was won by Graham Sutherland and Graham West (Caishowe Boundary Chapter) with Bruce Buchan and Les Rockley (Caishowe Boundary) in second place, Ray Bradbury and John Lawlor (Queens Oak) in third place and Paul Kitchener and B. Platten (Letchworth Garden City) filling fourth place.

Nearest the Pin competitions were won by John Ilott (Rickmansworth), Phil Lever (Gladsmuir) and Adrian Wilson (Royston).

The Presentation Dinner, at which 67 attended, was presided over by John Ilott (ME Grand Superintendent) who also presented the prizes.

Next year the event will be staged at the same venue and the date for your diaries is Monday 29th June 2009. It is hoped that we again will be blessed by similar weather and an increased number of golfers.

Dick Kitchener.
