A sad day for Freemasonry

The 21st of December 2007 was indeed a very sad day for Freemasonry, particularly Royal Arch masonry in Hertfordshire, when our Past Grand Superintendent - E. Comp. E. Alec Fuller - passed away.
That which follows is an extract from a tribute given to Alec by E. Comp. Alan Wiffen on 8th Januuary 2008.
Alec was born at Beddington in Surrey in 1931, the only son of Elizabeth and Fred Fuller. He spent his early childhood in North Norfolk during the war years, before the family moved to Bishop´s Stortford area.
National Service was spent in Royal Artillery where he trained as a surveyor. He was posted to Hong Kong & later to Japan. Alec was a very good shot and boxed for his Regiment.
It was always Alec´s ambition to be a Surveyor, and after National Service he joined a London firm of contractors, trained as a quantity surveyor, and gained top awards in the City & Guilds examinations. He took over the running of the family heating and plumbing firm in 1960, which he successfully expanded to include property construction.
Alec was a long standing member of the local church, Rotary Club, as well as a founder member of Abbeyfield House & Bishop´s Stortford Mencap/Grove Cottage.
His passion was however, Freemasonry. He joined St Michael´s Lodge in 1964 and was soon advancing through the ranks and extending his interests further afield into the Royal Arch, Mark and Royal Ark Mariners, Rose Croix and Royal & Select Masters; gaining high office and much respect. Over the years he used his skills as a secretary in various Orders to great effect and was a willing and influential mentor to many of the younger and more junior members.
His many talents were recognized and he held numerous executive appointments in Hertfordshire Freemasonry. To his great delight, in February 2001 he was appointed as the Grand Superintendent of the Province of Hertfordshire, an office he carried out with much distinction. He brought to this roll, as he did to his life in general, understanding, an ability to make the best of what he saw in people and a sense of happiness and enjoyment.
Alec was one of life´s gentlemen, kind and courteous and who always had time for you.
We give thanks for the opportunity of having known him, for all he has given and accomplished, and above all as a devoted husband, father and Companion.
E. Comp E. Alec Fuller, Requiescat in Pace.
