2019 Royal Arch Golf Day

The sunshine ”Gods” were again more than kind to the 47 golfers who participated in the 2019 Royal Arch Golf Day held at Redbourn Golf Club on the 12 th July. The course was in superb condition and this allowed the day to be very much enjoyed by everyone and with some excellent scoring all round.

Our Grand Superintendent, Jim Sharpley carried out his obligatory annual “harassing of players” duties from his on course buggy accompanied by Wayne Williams from Northamptonshire. Jim’s humorous banter was pitched at just the right level but we only wish that he might have shared some of his – intended obviously as thirst quenching material – chilled sparkly stuff !

For the second year running we had a playing Lady participant and we would really
like to encourage a few more of the Ladies to join in.

The dinner in the evening was attended by a further 12 guests including Elaine Clift, the widow of Ian Clift, who was present to make the inaugural presentation of the Ian Clift Memorial Trophy in memory of our dear friend who helped put this annual golf day well and truly in the centre of the Hertfordshire Royal Arch social calendar. Also, we were delighted to welcome our former Grand Superintendent John Ilott and his wife Glenys.

As ever, Redbourn Golf Club enabled us to have a superbly enjoyable day both on the course and at the dinner in the evening. They always make us feel very welcome.

After allowing for the small surplus on the ticket price and the proceeds from the various “swindles” the event made a surplus of £1,250 and which has been placed in the Provincial benevolent account for future distribution to local charities.

The major prize winners were :

  • The Alec Fuller Trophy – best singles player – David Broomer
  • The Sydney Tuck Trophy – best pairs Chapter – East Herts Chapter (Ali Osman & David Broomer)
  • The Ian Clift Memorial Trophy – best score on all par 3’s – Roy Hay.

The 2020 event will take place on Friday 10 th July, again at Redbourn Golf Club.

Finally, a huge thank you to all those who participated in any capacity and helped make this once again a highly enjoyable and rewarding day.
