2022 Royal Arch Golf Day – 8th July

Peter Cox writes that it was fabulous to be back at this popular and much loved event at Redbourn Golf Club. Our last outing was a full 3 years ago in 2019 and yet it felt just like yesterday at the Club that is so welcoming; the staff, the course and the set up were “pitch perfect” as indeed was the weather.

We were able to muster 44 players – including 15 non-masons – and 50 sat down to dine at Paula’s perfectly prepared two course feast of chicken and Belgian waffles. Considering the lack of recent rain the course was in superb condition which no doubt contributed to the excellent scoring all round.

The Grand Superintendent, Jim Sharpley, was in attendance for all the Tee-Off’s and for the evening prize giving, along with former Grand Superintendent Sydney Tuck and Elaine Clift, widow of Ian, for the presentation of their respective Trophies.

A raffle and auction raised a combined £600 meaning that the total surplus on the evening amounted to £910, which is being split between the Grand Charity Ukraine crisis appeal and Macmillan Nurses. Included in the auction lots was a set of Sydney’s golf clubs – now that his playing days are a long and distant memory! – and these raised a very creditable £50. The club’s catering manager, Paula, also contributed a gorgeous hamper which fetched a very worthy £100.

Gerry Greenland and I would like to thank all those players and evening diners for helping to bring back what one might call “the good old days” and for making it a fun, enjoyable and rewarding day.

The 2023 event has already been booked and will again be held at Redbourn GC on Friday 14th July, 2023.
