East Hertfordshire Lodge & Chapter – The First Exaltee in 77 Years

On 16 th April, East Hertfordshire Chapter was re-united with its sponsor, East Hertfordshire Lodge, when its current secretary, W. Bro. Tom Day was exalted into the Holy Royal Arch and East Hertfordshire Chapter in particular. As was pointed out at the centenary meeting of the Chapter last November, no one knows why members of the East Hertfordshire Lodge stopped being exalted in to its own Chapter but that is precisely what happened when the then reigning Master, W. Bro. Cyril
Bates, was the last brother to be exalted in to East Hertfordshire Chapter, 77 years ago during the 2nd World War.

However, that mystery and uncertainty was put behind us on 16 th April when several members of East Hertfordshire Lodge who are also members of the Royal Arch, attended Halsey Hall, Cheshunt, to mark the occasion and support Comp. Tom Day in particular, as he completed his journey in pure ancient Freemasonry. To highlight the special event the Deputy Grand Superintendent, E Comp David Hampton, was in attendance escorted by Provincial Deputy Grand DC, E. Comp. Bob Wale and
several Provincial officers and other very welcome guests. The three Principals performed a full ceremony in faultless style with all three lectures delivered afterwards by a number of highly competent members.

Some 45 members and guests dined afterwards and celebrated, not only the addition of a new Exaltee, but also the start of what is hoped will be a sustained period of growth, drawing members from East Hertfordshire Lodge in addition to the three other main feeder Lodges namely, Arkley & Finchley, Cuffley and Ridgeway (Essex).
